Our Bonaventure Story

RocketCup’s roots trace back to an entrepreneurship class at St. Bonaventure University, where founder Tom Cullen, SBU Class of 2000, and his students developed the vision for a coffee company with a mission to revitalize communities worldwide.

What began as a class project soon became reality, thanks to the collaboration of Cullen, Steve McClain, ’21 (MBA), and Mackenzie Bush, ’23. This team of Bonnies combined their talents and passion to create RocketCup Coffee—a brand dedicated to making an impact, one cup at a time.

RocketCup opened its first café in Cattaraugus, NY, quickly followed by a second location in Olean. They built their headquarters complete with a Coffee Roastery and a Speakeasy, turning a classroom concept into a thriving business with deep community roots.

Now, RocketCup is proud to bring this full-circle journey back to St. Bonaventure. Every cup you enjoy not only fuels your day but also strengthens the Bonnies community and supports the mission that started it all.

How we created the Bonnies Blend.

The story of Bonnies Blend began with a journey—one that took us around the world to discover what makes coffee truly exceptional. Each bean’s story is shaped by its environment: the varietal, the soil and climate, and the care it receives at every step. Much like wine, coffee’s flavor reflects where it’s grown and how it’s nurtured.

Only the world’s top-rated beans earn the distinction of specialty coffee. At every stage, from farm to cup, it takes dedication and passion to produce coffee of this caliber.

When it came time to create Bonnies Blend, we knew it had to be something truly special. We selected the finest specialty coffees and crafted a blend that reflects the bold, balanced character of St. Bonaventure.

Bonnies Blend isn’t just coffee; it’s a celebration of the Bonaventure spirit and the community that’s supported us from the start. Every sip embodies the quality, connection, and Franciscan values that make St. Bonaventure so special.
